Known historically as the Eighteenth Annotation Exercises, are the first form of the Spiritual Exercises that Ignatius Loyola gave to others as a layman. The are about simplicity with depth simplicity in exercise, depth in desire and relationship. He freely gave it to anyone and it offers easily learnt exercises in a structure that aligns one’s desires with faith and service. He believed it to be of great benefit to anyone desiring to progress in the service of God and feel a certain peace of mind that they were living their faith well. It is a timely and powerful retreat, asking for a serious commitment over four weeks in daily life. It has already yielded great riches for people through Campion and we are now able to offer it in it’s full form. Three different Light Exercises will be given at Campion and in one through our Outreach Team. If you are ready for this retreat now, you will find both simple, practical, spiritual exercises for life and a profoundly graceful and supportive experience of the Lord.
Sun 3 - Sun 31 May (Campion, CIS)
Michael Hansen SJ and Campion Team
This is the first of three Light Spiritual Exercise Retreats offered this year. In this retreat we remember God’s loving gifts and, feeling gratitude, desire to receive and give love. The weekly themes are ‘Remembering Love’, ‘Dwelling in love’, ‘Love at work’ and ‘Receiving and giving Love’. Through these exercises, the Lord will help us to remember and feel the traces of his love burning it’s way through our heart.
Progress in the Service of God
This is the second of three Light Spiritual Exercise Retreats offered this year. Ignatius used the phrase ‘Service of God’ in his giving of the Light Exercises. Service and progress define their purpose. For him, progress is a continuous movement forward. The weekly themes are ‘Where I am going and to what purpose’, ‘Progress through relationship’, ‘Progress through desire’ and ‘Progress through loving action’. The exercises of this retreat will free our desires and loosen our feet for his service.
Progress in Mercy, Healing and Freedom
Sun 4 Oct - Sun 1 Nov (Campion, CIS)
Michael Hansen SJ and Campion Team
This is the third of three Light Spiritual Exercise Retreats offered this year. The way of this retreat is challenging as it moves through ‘the mystery of love’ to prepare us, ‘the mystery of mercy’ to move from sin through mercy and wonder, ‘the mystery of healing’ to heal us and ‘the mystery of freedom’ to wrestle with the dilemma of possessions and desires with true freedom. Thus, it tracks through the dark side of our humanity. But, doing so, with God’s tender mercy, it also provides a surer route to greater love, wholeness and service. Indeed, it leads to a profound friendship with God.
Format of Program:
These retreats are a twenty four day retreat in daily life given over four weeks. They are built upon a commitment of daily prayer Monday to Thursday, Sunday Eucharist, a group meeting each Sunday and a meeting with a spiritual director once a week.
